19th Century China: A Portrait Workshop

Spend the day learning about portrait drawing skills, inspired by John Thomson’s fascinating photographs of a range of characters from his travels in 19th Century China.
The morning will be spent sketching from these vivid images in a range of pencils.
The afternoon session, in the workshop area, will instruct students in coloured pastel portraiture.
Students should bring a bring a photograph, a sketchbook, B, 2B, 4B pencils, eraser, coloured chalk pastels, coloured pastel paper and fixative.
Bring a packed lunch or alternatively, the museum café is available.
