Are you curious about the clothing and hairstyles in John Thomson’s stunning photographs of China? From hair, make up and jewellery, to robes and shoes, Thomson’s work provides a beautiful record of how people dressed in nineteenth century late-Qing dynasty China.
Join Dr Sarah Cheang, Senior Tutor in the History of Design at the Royal College of Art, as she explores the fashionable side of old China, and discusses what the people captured by Thomson were wearing and why.
