Slideshow Shim

With Artist Abi Kremer

Saturday 3 March, 10:30am – 4pm, £35

Inspired by the fascinating collection of portraits exhibited in A Question of Guilt: A Crime Writer’s Collection spend a day developing portrait drawing and colour mixing skills using pastel pencils.

Create a convincing portrait, conveying the character of your subject with composition, line and colour.

Practice measuring proportion and understanding colour theory for portraiture, using pastel pencils.

Tour the exhibition, examining the methods that the artists employ to portray the identity of their subject.

Choose a portrait to study, and with guidance, make a sketch using pastel pencils in the gallery.

Spend the later part of the workshop developing a coloured portrait sketch of your own choice of subject, using skills gained earlier.

This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with some experience.

Equipment required: a colour photo or image on your phone , coloured pastel sketch pad, pencils, pastel pencils, a putty and plastic eraser and fixative.

Bring a packed lunch or purchase lunch at the café.
