Coal Scuttle

This scuttle was purchased from the house furnishers Hampton and Sons catalogue. The scuttle was advertised as a ‘copper and brass coal vase’.

Hampton & Sons was established in 1830 by William Hampton, trading in Cranbourne Street, London, selling general household items and furniture, and expanded to a large general furnishing and department store in East Pall Mall, London, in 1869. Merton Russell-Cotes furnished East Cliff Hall, now the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, using many of the products shown in the catalogue.
