Japanese tsuitate

A tsuitate is a decorative single-panel portable partition used in Japan since at least the 6th century often to screen entrances, and block wind and sun. They are often made of wood, paper or silk and richly illustrated and decorated.

This tsuitate is decorated with a family crest of four lozenges within a circle and the motif of pine, bamboo and prunus. It was likely used as a fire screen.
