Napoleon
Merton Russell-Cotes cultivated people of high standing assiduously in real life as well as collecting them in the form of art works. He had a particular interest in objects related to Napoleon.
The artist of the bust is unknown however it could be by, or after, a similar bust made by the sculptor François Rude, which is held at Palazzina dei Mulini, on the island of Elba.
