The Bells, 1874
This chromolithograph print shows a caricature of Henry Irving entitled ‘The Bells’ taken from Vanity Fair, 19.12.1874. Henry Irving is shown as the title character, Mathias, and the work is attributed to Carlo Pellegrini, who was a caricaturist who did much of his work under the pseudonym Ape. He served as a caricaturist for Vanity Fair from 1869 to 1889.
