‘Then to her listening ear responsive chords came familiar, sweet and low’

This painting shows a young woman, mandolin in her hand. She eagerly listens for a musical reply, possibly from a lover. The title of the painting indicates the young girl did receive a response. This is one of Long’s more lyrical paintings, emulating the work of Leighton.
