Victoria, Princess Royal (1840-1901), 1858
This bust is likely that of Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter Victoria, Princess Royal (1840-1901). As the eldest child of the British monarch, she was briefly heir presumptive until the birth of her younger brother, the future Edward VII. She was the mother of Wilhelm II, the last German Emperor. She died in August 1901, less than 7 months after the death of her mother, Queen Victoria, in January 1901.
Polish sculptor, Ferdinand Junck moved to London in 1861. Between 1880 and 1895 he exhibited at the Royal Academy; Leeds City Art Gallery; the Royal Manchester Institution; the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society at the New Gallery in London.
