The Russell-Cotes is one of five museums nationally to have been shortlisted to work with renowned contemporary artists, Davy and Kristin McGuire to create a truly magical Museums at Night event here in Bournemouth in October.
The McGuires’ hybrid artworks are delicate, filigree fantasies that are momentarily brought to life through projection mapping and storytelling.
“Magical and exquisitely crafted, Davy and Kristin McGuire’s universe is full of visual wonders.” – The Guardian.
Sue Hayward, Museum Manager, said; “We worked with Davy and Kirstin a few years ago to showcase their enchanting Icebook, the world’s first projection mapped pop-up book. It was such a magical experience. Their intricately handcut artworks are brought to life as the lights go out and the projection begins. If we win, this time they will create a bespoke production inspired by our fabulous collections”.
Nick Stockman, Culture24 Campaigns Manager said: “This year the Connect! competition is more exciting than ever with voting taking place during the May Museums at Night festival and the artist-led events in October. All of the competing venues have wonderfully creative ideas for what they’d like their chosen artist to do if they win. Now every venue will be trying their hardest to get people to vote for them: we’d like to wish all the museums, galleries and heritage sites the best of luck!”
